

Hamann, Fred Henry of Columbia Heights, MN, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital with family next to him on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the age of 92.
Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife Yasie, parents Seigfried and Clara Hamann, brother Herman, sisters Louise, Marie, Ruthie, daughter Mary, and daughter in-law Kristine.
He is survived by his children Helen Kocon (Rick Kocon), Bill Hamann, Mike Hamann, Rick Hamann (Karen Hamann), grandchildren John, Tony, Andy, Samantha, Jessica, Elaina, Felicia, Sophia, Tamra, Nathan, Aaron, Rosie, Daniel, Annie, Micah, and many great grandchildren.
Fred grew up in Wadena, Minnesota, lived in numerous states, and finally settled in Columbia Heights, Minnesota for the past 56 years. While in the Army, Fred was stationed in Japan where he met the love of his life, Yasie Namba. They were married at the American Embassy in Japan in 1954 and lived happily together for 67 years until Yasie’s death in 2022.
Fred was an amazing father and took great pride in his five children. He always supported them and pushed them to reach their potential. Fred also loved spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fred was very proud of being a business owner in the powder coating business with his son Mike. They started Powder Specialties and continued the business for many years before retiring. For enjoyment, Fred loved spending time with his wife Yasie the most. He also had a great thirst for knowledge and could always been seen in his study reading books on various topics. He had an engineer’s mind and loved solving problems. Fred also loved watching the Vikings games and enjoyed going to tractor shows each year.
Fred’s family is deeply saddened by his loss but also celebrates the fact that he is now in heaven.
Funeral service will be June 21, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights, MN. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
