It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Tam Vo on June 21, 2023 at the age of 80. Born in Nha Trang city, Vietnam, on March 2, 1943, Tam lived a fulfilling and inspirational life filled with love, hard work, and determination. He was raised by his mother and father, Vo Van Hoc and Huynh Thi Chau, and his 7 siblings. Tam's father passed away when he was at the age of 2. Tam followed the steps of his 4 older brothers and joined the military. He enlisted in the Air Force as a pilot and served in the Vietnam War. His family evacuated the country and immigrated to the United States where they were sponsored by the church in 1975.
Tam's life was a testament to his dedication and resilience. He was employed as a janitor and then at Honeywell as a computer engineer for over 15 years, during which time he made a significant impact on his colleagues and the company as a whole. Driven to create a better future for his family, Tam also ventured into owning rental properties as a landlord and business owner. His entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic will always be remembered as part of his enduring legacy.
Tam met his wife Ann in Iowa, they got married and they started a life at their home in Roseville, Minnesota. They had 4 children together, Grace (Thien-Huong), Thomas (Thien-Phuoc), Peter (Thien-Long), and Paul (Thien-Thanh). Tam always pushed the importance to his children of having an education to prepare them for successful careers. The family lived in Shoreview, MN and then moved to Maplewood, MN, where they have lived for the last 15 years.
On June 1st, 2023, Tam unexpectedly collapsed and was taken by ambulance to Fairview Southdale Hospital where he was found to have a devastating hemorrhagic stroke. During his hospitalization course, he developed additional complications including an extensive pneumonia, pneumothorax, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, acute kidney failure, and severe progression of his intracranial bleed. Tam passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2023 surrounded by many of his family and friends. Tam's family thanks all the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff involved in his care.
In honor of Tam Vo's life and to cherish his memory, a funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home & Sunset Cemetery.
