bornMarch 31,1927 inMoose Jaw, SK to Ambrose Daniel & PhyllisDuperon (neeWalters). In 1943 he &
his father rode in a boxcar with their furniture & cows fromMoose JawtoMission, BC. Once settled on
their Dewdney farm his mother & younger brotherWally followed. Amby met Lois at a dance & after
a short courtship were married Jan 29,1949 in Haney & lived on the farmwith his parents & youngest
brother Johnny. In 1954 Ambrose & his father started Mission Towing, with his brotherWally joining
soon after as a partner & to run the day-to-day operations. Amby was then able to pursue other
opportunities & interests while remaining an involved owner of the company until his passing. Amby
& Lois loved to travel around BC & USA on their Harley Davidson, but those adventures ended after a
falling rock in the Fraser Canyon hit him on the head destroying the Harley. He & Lois lived & worked
in Van. for a few years then with two children, Ambrose Patrick & Angela they moved back toMission
in 1959. Joining Corrections Canada in 1965 as a steam engineer, Amby continued taking courses
eventually becoming a Living Unit Officer until he retired with several commendations & awards for
dedicated service. In 1956 Amby began flying single engine planes, owning a Piper Pacer & later
holding shares in a club plane. As well as taking family & friends on local scenic flights, for years he
& Lois would fly to Regina & Van. Island to visit family or just to Chilliwack for ice cream cones. Amby
loved a challenge so in 1957 being told the difficulty in securing a U.S. pilot license, he vetted out the
requirements & documents then rented a plane @Van. Airport flew to Nova Scotia then south to the
US without an appointment. In his characteristic reassuring way, convinced the official in charge to
review his documents, give him an exam & flight test. After which, instead of waiting 2 months for
his license to be mailed, they were pleased to hand it to him on the spot. Ambrose was a dedicated
member of the Mission Fire Dept. from 1960-1988. As a Lieut. he mentored others & notably carried
a fellow firefighter from the top of a blazing fire to safety. Amby held the highest-level ticket in
Industrial First Aid and was one of the few qualified members to work in the ambulance service,
which at the time, was provided by Mission Fire. In addition to teaching fire safety, he instructed
the St. John Ambulance First Aid course to the Boy Scouts & Girl Guides; he was a strong believer in
sharing his knowledge with anyone with a desire to learn.
Being a Grandad was a joy for Ambrose who loved the endless visits of his “girls”. Whether a school
tea or graduation he & Lois were always there with beaming smiles. Amby is predeceased by
