

The family of Esther Martha DesJardins announce that she has gone home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 11th of March while being cared for by her family and the loving staff at McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge. Esther DesJardins (nee Hanni) was born on the family farm near Trossachs Saskatchewan Sept. 24, 1941, but spent over 50 years as a member of the Mission Community.
Esther is survived by her large extended family including son and daughter-in-law, Wil Desjardins and Michelle Jensen, and their children and partners: Lea (Jean Venter), Tianne (Nate Yule) and Alexis Jensen-DesJardins. Also survived by Esther’s Daughter Jacquie McNeil and her husband Bill, and their family and partners including Sierra Rondquist, Ellis Rondquist (Charcoal Bedard) and Diana Wanless (Jesse Wanless). Esther is lovingly remembered by siblings Gary Hanni (Liz), Irma DesJardins (Harold), Wilfred Hanni (Pam), Mertin Hanni (Marie), Larry (Lori), Sandy Hanni, Geraldine Hanni, Alma Blundon (George), Joyce Janus (Malcolm), Bernice Northrop (Colin) and all their families.
Esther joins her husband William (Bill) Fredrick Desjardins, her parents Ida and Ernest Hanni and siblings Rudy Hanni, Albert Hanni, Bernard Hanni, Ruth Bernard, Gertrude Hanni who predeceased her.
Esther was a longtime member of the Mission Lutheran Church, and active member of Mission community for years coaching and playing softball, curling, and bowling. She loved the Lord, her family and her community but wanted everyone to know that she was ready to go home. She was grateful to her family doctor Dr. Alex Marazzi, the staffs at the Abbotsford Cancer Clinic and the McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday March 20th at 1 p.m. at the Woodlawn Funeral Home at 7386 Horne Street in Mission B.C. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, Esther would appreciate donations made to the McKenney Creek Hospice, 11762 Laity Street in Maple Ridge.
