John Schafer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our 'much loved' Dad, John Schafer, on Monday, April 21st at Glenwood Care Home in Agassiz, B.C. Dad was born July 5, 1927 in Petrovec, Yugoslavia. He leaves behind his devoted, loving wife of 65 years, Betty Schafer and sister in Ontario, Barb Reder. Also lovingly missed by sons Michael(Linda), David(Jane) and daughters Cathy(Les), Liz(Andy) as well as grandchildren Kris, Kyle, Jamie and Callie and great-grandchildren Nathan, Brooklyn and baby Mila. Dad was predeceased by youngest child Bobby in 1980 and was forever changed. Dad touched the lives of many family and friends with his solid morals, values and integrity which also ensured his success in any endeavour he took on. He worked in the chemical plant industry for many years before changing careers, becoming a successful realtor in the Fraser Valley. Dad was a great source for advice, guidance and numerous stories mixed in with his neverending humour and twinkle in his eye! His love for animals and the outdoors was apparent as well as his athletic abilities. He excelled at pitching in softball for many seasons and his love and talent for the game of golf was lifelong, having obtained several hole-in-one's, his name will be forever etched at Missions, Cedar Ridge golf course. He will also be remembered for his amazing 'self taught' music, songwriting and singing, often performing at retirement homes and various private venues, not to mention his own CD's! We are very thankful for the loving, stable, secure life you gave us and will forever be proud to say you were our Dad!
