He is survived by his sister Anne Martin in England.
Mike rec’d his apprenticeship as an instrument fitter from Bristol Sidleys in England and worked on the developing Concord engine. He entered the RAF and was trained as a radar technician. He loved it and could have stayed but they wanted him to jump out of planes so he left when his 5 years was up. He was a very good long distance cross country runner and ran for the RAF. He played soccer until his 60’s. He came to Canada in 1963 and went to work at CBC as a maintenance technician. He went on to work at Scarborough Cable, CTV and City TV. He was a wizard with machines and worked all the outside broadcasts for CBC and they never lost a show when he was there. In 1967 he went across Canada from the East coast to the West coast doing all the centennial shows. They had huge trucks and lots of equipment. He had so many hilarious stories and memories from that period of his life.
In 1976 he was head hunted and offered the job in Vancouver to build CKVU 13 (Global TV) He got it built in 119 days in the middle of a labour strike and brought it in under budget. It was the first TV station in Canada to go on air in the black.
After TV he went into sales and did very well and he had his own print shop in Mission. He was a brilliant man of varied talents and was very generous to the less fortunate.
He will be missed.
