DEC 31, 1940 - NOV 26, 2025
Our hearts are broken to have to announce the passing of a fine, kind, genuine man - our patriarch.
Predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy Archer (2010), his sister Joanne Archer (1985) and his parents, Roy (d. 1991) and Joan Archer (d. 2011).
Roy leaves behind a legacy of love; his children Sean (Nicole) Archer, Susan (Ron) Kleinsasser, Katie (Peter) Savage; his grandchildren Kirklen (Alana), Benjamin, Rebecca, Joseph, Samuel, Olivia, Matthias, and Bridget; his two great grandchildren, Leon and Charles; his sisters Diane Archer, Valerie Archer (Gerry Chow), nephew Christopher Archer (Alexander) and niece Amelia Chow; many cousins on the Archer and MacDonald ancestral lines.
Roy was born in Vancouver and raised in East Vancouver, a graduate from King Edward High School in Vancouver. He loved maintaining the old friendships.
He was the best big brother, our protector !
Roy had a strong work ethic from a young age (12 years old) - newspaper delivery boy, setting up bowling pins, stringing tennis rackets for Abby’s Sports Store and stocking shelves at local food stores, to name a few.
He worked in the food industry for 51 years, starting in his early teens, and in later years proudly represented his co-workers as shop steward for the UFCW.
Roy was passionate about life.
He proudly represented Canada in the Little League World Series in 1953 (backcatcher) which remained a proud accomplishment and was a real "feather in his cap.”
Roy’s service to his fellow man was exemplified by the community events he led and the awards he received.
Roy was a citizen of Mission since 1972 where in 2010, Roy was the recipient of the “Community Builder Award”, acknowledging his lead at the Annual Elks Easter Egg Hunt (attended by 2,000+) raising thousands for summer camps and scholarships, head coordinator and cook, flipping burgers and onions in the Elks trailer yearly at the Abbotsford Airshow or for any community event that needed a good meal, serving wintertime meals for the homeless amongst us, participating in the Elks Santa Christmas party.
Additionally in 2016, Roy earned a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for over 30 years of community service, presented by the Mayor of Mission.
Since 2021, Roy volunteered every day at the St Joseph’s Food bank.
Roy was always there with his great smile, games of trivia, his eclectic array of music (and occasionally with the finest of cigars!).
Most of all, he was loyal; with his big heart, his love of taking care of family and those in the community.
In lieu of flowers, Roy would love to give one more time to his community by memorial donations to the Christine Morrison Hospice where both Roy and Dorothy received the utmost respectful and compassionate care.
