Shirley lived a life of quiet strength with a warmth and smile that could break through the Lower Mainland clouds. She was a pillar of her family and well-loved by all who knew her. She was generous, gently funny, and unfailingly kind. She liked to sleep in, loved her pups—human and canine alike—and never missed a chance to cheer on those close to her.
Born in Stave Falls, B.C., Shirley graduated from Mission High and joined the workforce as a secretary. With a growing family, she made homes in Coquitlam, Vancouver, and Surrey before returning to Mission for her later years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dick, and her son, Rick. She is survived by many that she nurtured: her daughter, Karen, daughter in law, Shelly; sisters, Mary and Jean; nieces, Sherry, Judy, and Donna; nephews, Gary and Steven; grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle and wife Chelsea, Heather, Scott and wife Andrea, Kevin and wife Emma; and great-grandchildren Luke, James, Ezra, Emmett, Julian, and Zoey.
She was 90 years old, leaving behind a simple and lasting legacy: be good to one another, laugh when you can, and love without reservation.
Details for a celebration of life will be shared with family and friends. Please contact Kevin Finley at [email protected] if you would like to receive an invitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes a donation to the BCSPCA reflecting Shirley’s love of animals.
