Ana Maria Barrera

Ana Maria was born on May 31, 1934, in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Jose Rodriguez and Ercilia Mendoza. On April 23, 1955, she married her viejito, Emerico Barrera. They raised two daughters, Cati, Nellie, and two sons, Pepe, Emerico Jr.

She spent her life working hard and being creative. She was driven by the notion of making a better life for her family. Ana Maria (Anita) was most in her joy when dancing with her husband, Emerico. Anita and Emerico danced their way through 50 years of marriage. She was proficient at helping things grow, especially her family and garden. She found community in her church, prayer group, and the baile. She was known for her strong spirit, quick wit, and devotion to God. Her grandchildren remember her most for her unwavering love, open arms, and handmade tortillas.

Ana Maria is preceded in death by her cherished husband, Emerico Barrera, and her parents, Jose and Ercilia Rodriguez. She is survived by her children, Catalina (Brian) Desmond, Nellie (David) Hernandez, Joe (Tootsie) Barrera, Emerico (Temys) Barrera Jr.; grandchildren, Trevor, Allyson, Catia, David, Carlos, Jackie, Ana Maria; great grandchildren, James, Brian, Alexandra, Luciana, Alessandro, Jacob, Joshua, Mia, and numerous extended family and friends.

Ana Maria was a woman of great courage, strength, and dignity. The arc of her life was remarkable. Her memory lives on in the hearts and spirits of her friends and family.

*Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel, with the Rosary at 7:00 pm.

*The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 505 S Ironwood St, Pharr, TX 78577.

*Burial to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens

El jueves 28 de abril de 2022, Ana María Barrera, querida bisabuela, abuela y madre, falleció en paz y gracia a la edad de 87 años.

Ana María nació el 31 de mayo de 1934 en Linares, Nuevo León, México, hija de José Rodríguez y Ercilia Mendoza. El 23 de abril de 1955 se casó con su viejito, Emerico Barrera. Criaron dos hijas, Cati, Nellie, y dos hijos, Pepe, Emerico Jr.

Pasó su vida trabajando duro y siendo creativa. La impulsaba la idea de mejorar la vida de su familia. Ana María (Anita) disfrutaba más cuando bailaba con su esposo, Emérico. Anita y Emerico bailaron durante 50 años de matrimonio. Era experta en ayudar a que las cosas crecieran, especialmente a su familia y su jardín. Encontró comunidad en su iglesia, grupo de oración y el baile. Era conocida por su espíritu fuerte, ingenio rápido y devoción a Dios. Sus nietos la recuerdan más por su amor inquebrantable, sus brazos abiertos y sus tortillas hechas a mano.

A Ana María le precedieron en la muerte su amado esposo, Emérico Barrera, y sus padres, José y Ercilia Rodríguez. Le sobreviven sus hijos, Catalina (Brian) Desmond, Nellie (David) Hernandez, Joe (Tootsie) Barrera, Emerico (Temys) Barrera Jr.; nietos, Trevor, Allyson, Catia, David, Carlos, Jackie, Ana Maria; bisnietos, James, Brian, Alexandra, Luciana, Alessandro, Jacob, Joshua, Mia y numerosos familiares y amigos.

Ana María fue una mujer de gran coraje, fuerza y ​​dignidad. El arco de su vida fue notable. Su recuerdo vive en los corazones y espíritus de sus amigos y familiares.
