Optimistic people are the ones who don’t hold on to what they have, they don’t miss what they lose, and don’t obsess over what they don’t have yet. They simply enjoy the happy moments, they endure pain and meditate on the sadness because they know that nothing is eternal. An optimistic person, lives life to the fullest!
Rest in eternal peace to our beloved husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather
Eusebio Garcia Cortez, Our Eternal Optimist.
Eusebio (Chevo) Garcia Cortez passed away peacefully at his home in McAllen, Texas on July 26, 2023.
Eusebio was born in Arcabuz, Tamaulipas on August 15, 1926, to Gregorio and Maria Garcia. He was one of thirteen children.
Chevo, as he was affectionately known, and his family experienced extreme poverty and spoke of hardships and trials, but every story he told had a positive outcome. In every story, there was a life lesson, and his optimism and positivity are what he will be remembered for the most. He made sure to share his life stories with everyone he met. The stories of our lives become our legacy, and through his stories, Chevo lovingly left us with countless life lessons of gratitude, faith, courage, perseverance, work ethic, charity, and love.
Eusebio’s love for music and singing was the way he conquered the heart of Leonor Munguia (Nony). After serenades and relentless pursuit of that beautiful girl he met at her father’s grocery store, she became Chevo’s wife. They were married in Reynosa, Tamaulipas in February 1958 and had four beautiful children: Marta Elena, Maria Del Carmen, Jorge Eusebio, and Laura Teresa.
Eusebio was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Laura Teresa Vara, granddaughter Sandra Elaine Luna, and his beloved chosen family, the Moreno-Barrera extended family. Surviving Eusebio are: wife Leonor M. Garcia, Children; Marta Lopez (Omar) Carmen Solano (Jesus) Jorge Garcia (Cori) Enrique Vara. Children from a previous marriage: Carlos Javier Garcia (Aurora) Dinorah Lina Luna (Juan) Grandchildren; Gabriela Lopez-Stewart (Patrick), Diego Lopez, Marcella Solano, Ariana Solano, Hugo Solano, Luis Gutierrez, Daniela Vara, Robert Luna, LJ Garcia, and Alex Garcia.
To our father’s caregivers; Terry Bourbois and Teresa Fernandez… Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the care, kindness and compassion you showed our father. You both made dad’s last days at home much brighter and comfortable up until his passing.
Because our father experienced hunger firsthand, he always made sure that no one ever went hungry. Whether it was family, a friend or a stranger, countless times, he along with mom would shop for groceries for someone in need. So to honor his memory, we ask that in lieu of flowers,
