

Carroll Wilbur Jackson was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, the first of five children of William Thomas & Ella Higginbotham Jackson. Carroll enjoyed a happy, secure and loving childhood. It involved close family ties and strong Christians teachings. He attended public schools in Lynchburg, Virginia. After High School he entered Union College in Richmond, Virginia where he studied until his education was interrupted by a tour of duty with the U.S. Army. He received several awards for his meritorious service.
Following his discharge, he resumed his college training. He transferred to Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia and received a B.S Degree. While he attended there he was inducted into the prestigious fraternity “Omega Psi Phi.”
Upon graduation from Hampton, Carroll attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee for medical school. After medical school Carroll completed his residency at Rochester General in Anesthesiology. Following his residency, he worked at D.C General and Freedman’s Hospital in Washington D.C for a number of years.
In 1967 Carroll moved to California to join the other members of his family who had already become residents there. In California, Carroll joined Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Bellflower. He worked at this facility for thirty-five years. Carroll also taught courses at Kaiser. He taught nurses to become Nurse Anesthetists. Carroll was adored and admired by many hospital staff, patients and pupils through his work there.
During his lifetime Carroll enjoyed many sports and hobbies including golf, tennis, bridge, fishing, building and flying model airplanes, piloting and sailing.
In 1988, Carroll married Diana Brown and they had a very happy marriage until her untimely death in 2008. Carroll enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned for more than forty-five years. He was also in Orange County resident for more than fifty-five years. Carroll was a deeply devoted Christian and was very involved with his local churches.
Carroll died peacefully on February 24, 2017 with his family by his side. He leaves behind an abundance of friends who remember him as a kind and loving individual who especially enjoyed people and embraced life. He is survived by his two sisters, Dr. Clifton J. Jackson and Mrs. Jeanne J. Watkins, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and well-wishers.
