Ryan Thorne, 36, of San Marcos died unexpectedly on January 7, 2023. Born in Fargo, North Dakota he grew up and spent most of his life in California including Lemoore, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and San Marcos. He is survived by his wife Cara, mother Jill (Johnson), brothers Drew and Nolan; children Riley and Reese, grandmother Shirley, Aunt Jan and niece Astrid. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents Herbert and Erlis Otto.
An avid personal trainer, Ryan also started a health supplement company , Big Boi Supplements, and participated in many body building and health related contests and activities. He loved helping others in the health industry reach their goals and change their lifestyle. Helping and educating his clients on health was his passion
Ryan graduated from San Marcos High School in 2004 and studied nursing at Palomar College and then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology at California State University, San Marcos in 2021. He was currently in the process of applying to a master’s degree to complete his single subject teaching degree.
As a big brother to Drew and Nolan, Ryan was always there to look out for and support his younger brothers unconditionally.
His wife Cara said “ he was a loving husband and an outstanding father to his children Riley and Reese.”
Ryan was also lover of all beings including the dogs, ferrets, fish, reptiles and exotic birds, that he raised, trained and nurtured throughout his life.
He loved staying fit, enjoyed dancing, swimming, the beach, fishing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. He was a collector of Star Wars, Dr. Strange and the Avengers along with being an avid collector of Beanie Babies and Pokemon cards in his youth. Ryan loved dressing up as a different superhero every year and celebrating life “like a kid” daily and making others laugh.
A sweet, loving, genuine man, who was a "best" friend to many, Ryan leaves a void in so many hearts and lives. Please help us to remember and cherish the beautiful memories that Ryan has left us with.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 27 at 4 p.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Services in Mission Viejo, followed by a reception. Burial will be private.
