“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” - John 14: 1-4
Mr. Augustine Chittet, age 93, of Missouri City, TX, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 1, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on December 31, 1932, in Kolany, Thodupuzha, India, a son of the late Joseph and Mariam Chittet.
Augustine was an inspiration to all of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a very spiritual man. Attending Mass, praying the rosary, and reading the Bible were ways he became closer to God. His faith was unwavering in God, even with all the illnesses he had during his life.
He emigrated from India at the age of 42, settling in Chicago with his wife and son. Their family grew larger and during that time, he helped form an Indian community in the suburbs of Chicago. He treasured family time, enjoyed hosting family gatherings, fishing, cooking, and traveling. His vacations included annual trips to India to visit family. In 2015, he moved to Sugar Land, TX.
Those who knew Augustine will remember him for his infectious smile and humor, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to helping those most in need. He left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Augustine was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Aleykutty, two older brothers, Matthew and Joseph, and two older sisters, Mariyam and Kunjely.
He is survived by his son Joseph (Anjaly) and daughter Jibby (Jaison); and seven grandchildren who were the lights of his life, Elsa, Jude, Emily, Joshua, Lucas, Katherine, and Charlotte.
Although Augustine’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to live in our hearts. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 4th from 5 – 8 pm at Dignity Memorial Funeral Home in Missouri City, TX with livestream available at https://vimeo.com/event/5970358?fl=so&fe=fs.
