Agnew Purvis died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Saad’s Hospice less than a day after being transferred from Spring Hill Memorial Hospital. He could not rally this time after a two-week battle with pneumonia. Agnew was 86 years old.
He is proceeded in death by his father Thomas Agnew Purvis, mother Laura Irena Parden Purvis, sister Ida Purvis, brother Monroe Purvis, sister Martha Roberts, his first wife Bobbie Ann Pelham Purvis, his second wife Bobbie Jean Loper Purvis, and his nephew Laurie Roberts.
He is survived by his only child, Rick Purvis (son-in-law Dean Malone) of Louisville, KY, sister-in-law Foula Purvis, nephew Bill Purvis, niece, Rojean Reid (Harold) and nephew, Clark Roberts (Susan.) He is also survived by Blanche Starks friend since childhood with whom he talked nearly every day since entering assisted living four years ago. Bless you, Blanche, you helped keep him going.
Agnew always had a story to tell, a joke to share, or, in the last years, a complaint to offer. The latter usually laden with hyperbole in the service of getting a laugh. He is now free of the turkey that was served to him at least three times a day at Crowne Place and the frustration of the TV channel that he was watching magically changing…according to the world of Agnew. Often, he could not finish expressing these complaints without making himself laugh along the way. He knew he was full of…and got great enjoyment sharing it with others.
Dr. Purvis expresses his gratitude to the staff at Crowne Place Assisted living for their care and support of him as well as the staff of Spring Hill Memorial Hospital who cared for him many times in the last years. He is also grateful for Clark and Susan who called and dropped by to visit (with much praised treats) when in Mobile.
There will be a brief grave side service Friday, June 25, 2021, at 10:00 am at the burial site, Ulcanush Baptist Church, Coffeeville, Al.
