Ann "Annie" McMahon Summersell, died peacefully at her home in Mobile, AL on Thursday November 10, 2022. A native of Mobile, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Harrington "Frank" Summersell, Jr. and her parents, Cecil Baker McMahon and Francis Dreaper McMahon. Annie is survived by her sons Francis Harrington "Trip" Summersell, III, Birmingham, AL, John Patrick "Jack" Summersell (Kimberly Blanchard), Mobile, AL and James Bradford "Brad" Summersell (Peri Haddock), Fairhope, AL, her grandchildren Clara Hadley Summersell, Cole Harrington Summersell, Brady Alexander Summersell, Maizie Catherine Summersell, Olivia Ann Summersell, and Francis Alayna Summersell, her sister Patricia “Trisha” McMahon Bixler, her brother Timothy Patrick McMahon, and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Annie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is a graduate of Bishop Toolen high school and had many lifelong friends from her hometown of Mobile. She also maintained numerous long-term friendships with people from around the country that she met while living in Auburn, AL, Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA and Chicago, IL and while traveling with Frank, her husband of nearly 50 years. She provided loving moral support to Frank as he built a successful business over many years. He often credited Annie as an indispensable advisor and counselor in this endeavor. Annie was strong in her faith and as a devout Catholic, participated as an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. During her life, Annie gave generously of her time and talents by serving numerous civic and charitable organizations. Annie had the unique ability to create a home that was very tasteful and elegant, but at the same time, a place that felt comfortable to anyone who entered. She was a great cook and made what was arguably the best seafood gumbo ever tasted.
She never tried to draw attention to herself. She supported others selflessly and provided quiet strength to her friends and family. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. Annie was a true southern lady through and through and an Auburn fan to the end. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 14 at 9:30 a.m at St. Ignatius Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Brady Summersell, Cole Summersell, Billy Bixler, Brian McMahon, Daniel McMahon and Stephen McMahon.
