
David, as he was known by his friends, was born March 22, 1942, to Arthur D. Boswell, Sr., and Lucille T. Boswell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane “M.J.” Boswell; sister, Barbara Ann Thomas; and a nephew, Harry Clifford Kollin. He is survived by a half-sister, Dava Ann Schaefer; nephew, Charles Kollin, Jr.; a devoted feline named Petey; and other relatives and friends.
David graduated from UMS in 1960 and served in the Air Force from 1961-1967. During his tour in the Air Force, he took classes at night from Auburn University and the University of South Mississippi and received his bachelor’s degree in business management. Later in the 1970’s he attended night school classes from Southwest State earning a computer science degree.
David’s working career years involved employment at Mercury Freight Lines, Searail, Inc. and leading to his place of retirement – Intermodal Transportation Services, Inc. where he held the position of V.P. of Safety, Claims and Insurance.
David was a member of several professional organizations: S.M.C.R.C. Freight Claims Council, National Freight Claims and Security Council, Safety Management Trucking Association, National Committee for Motor Fleet Supervisor Training and the National User Board.
In 1982 he would complete all requirements for certification as an Honorary Certified Claims professional. He received his certificate of completion at the CCPAC headquarters in Washington, D.C.
When David and his bride found time for hobbies, they enjoyed digging for vintage bottles and pottery or fishing.
David’s ashes were laid to rest on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery. He received military honors.
