

Mrs. Bernice Margaret Hickman Doublet – “Nanny”, age 85, a native of Mon Luis Island and long time resident of Mobile, AL passed on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Lynwood Healthcare Center of Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Joseph Hickman and Pauline Collins Hickman, brothers, Arthur Hickman and Kenneth Isadore Hickman. Mrs. Doublet was an attending member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church until moving to Mobile where she joined Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Sodality, the Bereavement Committee and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 250 for 28 years. Bernice was affectionately known as “The Candy Lady” because of her delicious homemade candy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Claude G. Doublet of Mobile, AL; one sister, Loretta DeTiege of Mon Luis Island, AL; two brothers, Allen (Gwen) Hickman and Maurice L. Hickman of Mobile, AL; two sisters-in-law, Dolores P. Hickman of Mon Luis Island, AL and Sylvia A. Osborne of Mobile, AL; three devoted nieces and nephews, Alma Hickman (George) McAlman, Vivian (Frenchie) DeTiege, Lois and Kenneth J. Osborne; devoted friends, Elizabeth Duggin and Catherine D. Albiez; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Laura Saxton and her very special staff at Lynwood Healthcare Center and family friend Lycett Naomi Robinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the church with the Rosary at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Cemetery.
