She was quite the feisty yet passionate business woman for over 60 years; owning and operating five beauty salons and a state accredited cosmetology school. At the heart of this animal lover, was a woman known for picking up stray dogs on a regular basis. She had a gift of shaming “you” into taking one. Many of which ended up in her den. She knew how to raise your children, how to take care of your parents, and how to run your marriage! Often prefacing her outspoken opinion with “well I’m gonna tell ya what I’d do...”! We’re not sure 85 is totally accurate since she made several attempts to alter her birth certificate and driver’s license, but it’s likely we can trust the hand written note her mother penned, which to this day is tucked inside her younger brothers wallet and much to her chagrin is obliged to prove it. Jo, we will miss your input and all the family will surely miss the phone ringing! Without question, Jesus has already had an ear full and she’s only just arrived! Betty Jo is preceded in death by her husband Earl L. Roberts, her parents Harry (Chink) Tanner and Mary C. Davis Tanner, and her brother Shot Tanner.
She is survived by brother Billy A. Tanner and sister Virginia ‘Sparkle’ Tanner, stepson Craig Roberts, grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Graveside Service will be Sunday April 15th at Roberts Chapel Church 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ARF animal rescue 6140 Rangeline Rd. Theodore, AL 36582.
