He was an incredible father to his 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Billy was born in his favorite place, Tanner Williams, on January 31st, 1942. He was a welder by trade, a farmer by default, and if you were in need, he could rent you a place to live and sell you a car on a payment plan.
Billy had a passion for cars and was known for collecting all kinds of “treasures”. If you needed something he most likely had it. He could fix almost anything or tell you how to fix it. If you didn’t ask him before you did anything, he was quick to say “let me tell you what you should have done,” and he was usually right. Billy was full of wisdom, he was right with God and believed in the Bible, specifically the King James Version.
Our dad was a good man, he wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. He loved his family, friends, his dog Pepper, and this community. He was always ready to tell you a story or give you a history lesson on Tanner Williams and knew how everyone was related. Billy looked forward every day to the morning news and breakfast at Sidetrack followed by the afternoon update with coffee at G & D. He always wore a hat and could be found every evening sitting on his porch swing.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents Harry "Chink" Tanner and Mary C. Davis Tanner; his brother, Shot Tanner; and sister, Jo Tanner Roberts.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia 'Sparkle' Tanner; his children, Shannon Corley (Jason), Richard Tanner (Sarita), and Crystal Sears (Richie); grandchildren, Hannah Bacon (Tripp), Garrett Corley, Caleb Tanner, Keeley Sears and Bo Sears; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Wyatt.
A visitation for Billy will be held Tuesday August 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Tanner Williams Holiness Church, 14801 Tanner Williams Rd. Service led by Brother Donnie at 11 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Tanner Williams Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery, 13685 Tanner Williams Road. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
