Born in Jackson, MS, Bo graduated from Murrah High School in 1960, attended the Marion Military Institute, Georgia Technology University, and Millsaps College where he graduated in 1965, with a degree in Psychology, and surprisingly to his family, making the Dean's List.
A proud veteran, Bo served in the Marines including 14 months in Vietnam. After serving his country, Bo joined his father in the air conditioning business and later started BoMart Heating & Air Conditioning with his wife, Martha.
Bo is preceded in death by his parents, Bowden Long Palmer, Sr. and Evelyn Wheatley Palmer. He is survived by his two loving children Bowden “Trey” (Teresa) Palmer and Amy (Richard) Carpenter. He was known as “Pop” by his adoring three grandchildren Reed, Gaby, and Andrew. Bo is also survived by his siblings Jane Palmer MacGregor and Jackson Wheatley Palmer, his four nephews and one niece.
Bo had a love for sailing and was a lifelong competitive, one-design sailor. In 1986, he served as Commodore of the Jackson Yacht Club. Being an active sailor, he became a member of the Mobile Yacht Club upon moving to Mobile in 2009. One of Bo’s proudest moments was sailing through the Panama Canal in 2016. He will be greatly missed by his many, many friends and sailing buddies.
A steadfast Episcopalian, Bo was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (located at 1854 Staples Rd in Mobile) where on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the visitation will take place at 1:00 pm followed by the memorial service at 2:30 pm. Following this service, Bo’s life will be celebrated at the Mobile Yacht Club on Dauphin Island Parkway.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions to one of Bo’s favorite organizations: Buckaroo Barn Foundation, Mobile Area Special Olympics, Salvation Army, the Mobile Yacht Club Youth Sailing program, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Mariner program or for his favorite dog, Jake, who is from the SPCA.
