

Caroline Sue Cooper Gunn – age 81, born in Hattiesburg, MS, raised in Jackson, MS, and a longtime resident of Mobile, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012. She was a 1948 graduate of Central High School in Jackson. Mrs. Gunn decided to continue her education at the age of 50 by attending college. She was an avid reader and a published author of poems and short stories. She was a former manager at Paul Brown’s Hallmark Cards and retired in 2005 from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine as the Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Mrs. Gunn was a longtime member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Stanford S. Gunn, and sister, Linda Cooper. Mrs. Gunn is survived by her children, Lea Gunn Ashbee (Erk) and Charlotte Gunn Doan (Frank) of Mobile, and Stacey Gunn Thompson (Ray) of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Zack Ashbee (Catherine) and Jeth Ashbee (Hannah) of Mobile, and Katie Thompson Carro (Michael) and Jenna Lea Thompson of Phoenix; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mrs. Gunn’s caregiver, Jean Windham, and the staff at Cogburn Midtown for all of their professional care and support. Visitation will be held in the Spring Hill Baptist Church Chapel on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service.
