
Charles E. Colvin – of Mobile, AL, passed to be with the Lord on March 1, 2014 at the age of 83. He died peacefully at home from pancreatic cancer. Charles was a native of Bradley County in Arkansas, where he graduated from Hermitage High School in 1948. Charles and Ruth Rowell Colvin were married by Rev. Quincy Mathis at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Warren, Arkansas on March 8, 1953. They have been residents of Mobile, Alabama ever since.
Charles was employed with the Alabama Power Co., Mobile, AL, where he spent 40 years except for a two year Army stint during the Korean War. He began his career in the warehouse at age 18 and was Division Superintendent of Stores when he retired in 1988. Ruth also retired in 1988. The next 25 years were spent enjoying traveling by R.V. throughout our great country and the Canadian Provinces with good friends. For the last few years Charles has greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of shooting pool at the senior center. Charles is the son of Hoyle and Zena Temple Colvin of Hermitage, Arkansas, deceased. Along with Ruth, Charles is survived by their daughter, Carla Colvin Duren, of Mobile, AL and Littleton, CO. His granddaughter, Mallory Duren Rozelle, married to Christopher Matthew Rozelle, resides in Pace, FL. There are two precious great-grandchildren, Peighton Nissley Rozelle (almost 3) and Camden Colvin Rozelle (just a week old). Charles’s brother Jerry Colvin is a resident of North Augusta, SC. Funeral services will be held at Spring Hill Baptist Church on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. prior to services. The family requests no flowers please. Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church Foundation, 2 South McGregor Ave., Mobile, AL 36608. Burial will be at Hickory Springs Cemetery in Hermitage, Arkansas.
