Constance Metcalf Cooper

Constance “Connie” Metcalf Cooper - age 87, completed her journey to Heaven on July 10, 2012. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was born in Lancashire, England on October 11, 1924 to Elizabeth and William Metcalf. She married J. C. Cooper in 1946 in England and shortly thereafter left her beloved country to move to the United States to be with her husband. She has resided in Mobile, AL for the past 59 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph C. Cooper whom she was married to for 66 years. She worked for Gayfer’s Department Store in Mobile and retired after 25 years of service. She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Elden) Byrd, Norma Norris, and Beth (Johnny) Young; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; other relatives. Her family will never forget the love provided by her and her husband to family members and friends. "Granny," as she was called, was a unique individual whose British ways and comments were often found amusing and entertaining. Graveside services will be held at Springhill Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 12 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Bob Barr officiating.
