Connie was a very loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to the most important thing in her life, her family. Her abundant love was expressed to all of us multiple times every time we were around her.
Connie was born and raised in Mobile, AL. She was a graduate of Murphy High School Class of 1956. She was loved by all – reflected in her being crowned Homecoming Queen and selected as a Class Favorite and Azalea Trail Maid.
After working several years at Goldstein’s Jewelry Store in Mobile, she began working at Brookley AFB as a bookkeeper/accounting clerk. She fell in love with a young officer, Donald Charles Roth, her beloved husband of almost 65 years. Brookley AFB was where they married and had all three children, Steve Roth (Angela), Susan Robinson (Roy), and Karen Huffman (Rick). She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Brittney Page (Matt), Megan Wallace (Clinton), Kyle Roth, Hannah Cobb (Cameron), Luke Robinson (Maddie), and Gracie Roth, as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
After the children were born, Connie and Don were transferred to California for five years before moving to Pascagoula, MS, where they spent most of their life raising their family. While in Pascagoula, she worked various part time jobs. She was an Area Manager for World Book Encyclopedia; managed and worked in Sears Optical and worked for Dr. Coe's Optical. They were long time members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and were also actively involved in the Charismatic Renewal in that area. Connie loved being part of the Newcomers Club of Pascagoula. After Don retired, they moved to Gulf Shores to be near family and the beach. Connie loved being active and with family – especially jet-skiing, beaching, and crabbing with the grandkids. She was a founding member of the South Baldwin Newcomer's Club and loved attending monthly luncheons with the South Baldwin Christian Women’s Connection. Connie and Don were both active in Square Dance Clubs in Pascagoula and Gulf Shores. She loved having a fun time going to parades, watching fireworks, and doing the St. Paddy’s Day Annual Pub Crawl with her Jernigan family. She never ran out of energy until the past year or two.
Connie is survived by her husband, three children, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Dr. Leo Jernigan (Dale), as well as a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Leo Malcolm Jernigan and Thelma Eleanor Dueitt Jernigan. Also, two of her brothers, Charlie Jernigan and Michael Jernigan.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, which was near and dear to Connie’s heart. She loved supporting the zoo in her community. 20499 Oak Rd. If you choose to send flowers only the church will accept the florist’s delivery, not the funeral home.
