She is preceded in death by her husband Alphonse Gonzales, parents John Henry and Sabra
Ella Eubanks Courtney; brothers David Courtney and Marvin Roscoe Courtney; sister Ruth
Richardson. Nephews; Marvin Eubanks and Alvin Eubanks; brother-in-law Comer Seals, Jr.,
sister-in-law Jeane Courtney and special friend and Gonzales family member, Cynthia Mount
also preceded her.
Mrs. Gonzales is survived by her sisters, Gail Metcalf, and Johnnie Seals; sister-in-law Jane Ann
Courtney; nieces and nephews; Lisa Wagoner, Mike Courtney, Eddie Courtney, Amanda Brown,
Beth McCabe, Yancy Seals, Paul Seals, John Courtney, Mark Courtney, Martha Ray, Mary Davidson,
Nancy Miller, and Wayne Eubanks. Also, she is survived by many other relatives and friends.
In recent years, she enjoyed a close relationship with the Gonzales family members Patrick Mount,
Margaret Williamson, Hunter Mount, Taylor Weaver, Kaitlyn Blow, Mariah Henley, Amber Greene,
and Allison Mount.
Mrs. Gonzales attended Our Lady of Lourdes in Mobile, Alabama for many years. Over the years,
she volunteered and served in numerous roles. Lasting friendships developed, and were nurtured
within her church.
Growing up, Cora Jean enjoyed life on the family farm in George County, Mississippi. Her love of
gardening continued throughout her adult life. While living in Mobile, she enjoyed downtown
events and walks to Mobile Bay. As children, family members especially remember the walks to the
bay as a highlight of a visit to her home. She enjoyed participating in the Mobile Chorale Group and
reminisced for many years of having traveled to New York City with this group to perform at
Carnegie Hall.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Courtney, Randy Brown, Patrick Mount, Hunter Mount, John
Weaver, and Cohen Greene.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1621 Boykin Blvd., Mobile,Alabama on
Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy., Mobile, Alabama.
Memorial donations may be offered to Our Lady of Lourdes or the American Cancer Society.
