

Darryl Steen Farnell. 63 years old, was preceded in death by his father, Perry Steen Farnell. He is survived by his mother Hazel McLaughlin Farnell; son, Donnie Steen Farnell (Toni); and Janice Farnell; Grandchildren: Dylan and Ashton Farnell. Darleen Hudson (Ronny) sister; and Delance (Sheila) Farnell, brother.
He graduated in 1968 from Murphy High School and then graduated from Southwest State Technical. He was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church. Darryl was with Muzak for over 20 years and Nelson Radio & Supply for many years. He worked at Sears Automotive for the past few years and had recently began working for PepBoys.
Darryl was a friend to everyone, helping whoever was in need, putting family & friends above his own needs. Darryl had many great accomplishments in his life, although he seldom shared these with others. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout and active playing park baseball. He coached his son many years at Maître Park. On 5/6/1989, the Babe Ruth Baseball Field at Maître Park was re-named The Darryl Steen Farnell Ball Field, in his honor, for his many years of dedication to Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. Darryl was always involved building and restoring cars and engines. If it had a motor, he could fix it or make it run faster, i.e. drag racing, go-carts, and street rods, He was a member of Port City Classics Street Rods. Darryl's grandchildren were his pride and joy. He could be seen wherever Dylan and Ashton were playing sports and/or receiving awards at their schools and church. For the past 20 years, since his dad's death, he has been the primary care giver for his Mother. Darryl was the one his son, sister, brother, nieces and nephews, friends would turn to for advice, of how to do anything or repair anything. Darryl always had an answer. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 12 noon. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens.
