An Alabama native, born in Birmingham, where the importance of family and church were instilled in her, Dolly earned her BA from Howard College, now Samford University. She was VP of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and met her soulmate Don in a game of bridge.
Dolly and Don were married in 1950 before moving to Don’s home of Mobile and joining Dauphin Way United Methodist Church where they raised their two children Donna and Cliff. They led MYF for years, helped start the Stephen Ministry, volunteered for Meal on Wheels and were longtime members of the Country Club of Mobile.
Dolly’s hobbies included family, family, needlepoint, family, bridge, golf, family and Alabama football.
Dolly was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 66 years, her parents Bettis and Bama Williams, and her sisters Verne Caruthers and Joy Wakefield.
She is survived by her children Donna Wyatt, and Cliff and Robin Wyatt; her grandchildren Barr and Lindsey Hortenstine, Cliff and Katherine Hortenstine, Ford Wyatt, and Bobby and Jean Wyatt; and her four great granddaughters Olivia, Maddie, Dylan Jane, Ada – with two more on the way! Family was everything to Dolly, especially her grandkids.
She leaves us with full hearts of wonderful memories of a life well lived, as well as instructions on the proper way to set a table, that jumbo lump crab make the best West Indies and there is only one football team – Roll Tide!
The visitation will be held Friday, November 15 at 10am at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in the Parlor, followed by the funeral in the Chapel at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Stephen Ministry at Dauphin Way UMC.
