Doris Eloise Scott Savio passed away at peace on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. She was born to the proud parents M.H. and Vennie (Jackson) Scott at home in Toxey, Alabama on March 13, 1934. Growing up, Doris was doted upon by her older brothers, Jesse M. (Ted) Scott and James Lamar Scott. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and Ted.
In her childhood years, her parents were active members in the Toxey Assembly of God Church. After the family’s move to Mobile in 1942, the Prichard Assembly of God would be an integral part of Doris’s formative years. It was at this church that Doris made many lifelong friends and prayer partners. Throughout her life, she supported many domestic and international ministers, missionaries, and Christian organizations. Always willing to share her love of Christ and church unabashedly, she was instrumental in changing many lives.
Doris began her career in March 1958 with the Department of the Air Force at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile. She transferred to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio in 1967 due to the closure of Brookley. After her husband’s retirement, she was able to transfer to the Army Corps of Engineers in Mobile in 1982. She retired in December 1989 with thirty one years of service.
The next year she celebrated her 40th Wedding Anniversary with her loving husband Samuel (Sam) Anthony Savio. Sadly he passed in 1994. She married again in 2003 to Roy Johnson. But once again she would endure the loss of a devoted husband in 2007.
Doris always liked school when she was growing up and she graduated with honors from Murphy High School. After several years of marriage and having two children, she attended Twentieth Century Business College. This opened the door for her at Brookley. She started taking college classes at night when the University of South Alabama opened in 1963. After her move to San Antonio, she continued her college education and concentrated in the field of accounting. A strong believer in education, she encouraged her children and then her grandchildren to attend college.
A giving person, Doris leaves behind family and friends that have been touched in many ways by her. In this time of mourning, we hope that you will honor her by remembering and sharing with others how she influenced you.
In loving memory,
Toni Savio Carney, Victor Savio, and their families
