

Elizabeth Sheffield Howell “Betty”, 80, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Fairhope, Alabama. Betty was born in Mobile to George and Lula Sheffield. She retired from the Social Security Administration after 30 years of service. She earned the “Archangel Award” for her devotion and involvement in her church community, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Betty loved cooking and preparation for the Greek Fest in Mobile, the Crimson Tide, and casinos. For all of Betty’s interests and achievements, the most important thing in her life was family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lula Sheffield; her brother, Johnny Sheffield and his wife Barbara Sheffield; and her sister, Sally Hall. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leon E. Howell; three daughters, Theresa (Keith) Ramey, Cindy (Todd) Sirmon, and Stephanie (Dean) Barnes; one grandson, Daniel (Erin) Cox; four granddaughters, Tara (Stephen) Perrone, Tiffany (Kurt) Ollhoft, Haley Sirmon, and Kyndall Barnes; four great-granddaughters, Anna, Ava, Kallie, Ella; one sister, Mary McKinley; as well as being “Aunt Poula” to a multitude of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Ann Street in Mobile, with the service following immediately after at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
