Elsie Howell Couey

Elsie H. Couey – a native and resident of Semmes, AL died on Friday, October 7, 2011, at a local hospital. She was a charter member of Crawford Baptist Church. Because of her love for children, she served in the church nursery for about 25 years. Mrs. Couey was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Henry Couey; daughter, Bernice Couey; parents, Curtis H. and Bertha Joyner Howell; grandson, Henry Couey; and four siblings. She is survived by five children, Norville Couey (Mary), Charles Couey (Louise), Dottie Moore (Frank), Donnie Couey (Janice), and Anita Stokley (Lyle); 13 grandchildren, dede Couey (Charley), Michael Couey, Christina Couey, Angela Mason (Scott), Paul Couey (Sarah), Charles Couey, Jr. (Amy), Dusty Ellison, Toni Pearce (James), Heather Lewis (Adam), Christopher Jett (Katie), Stephen Jett, Brandon Stokley (Yolanda), and Blane Stokley (Amanda); 18 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from Crawford Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, October 10, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Semmes First Baptist Cemetery.
