

Emile Harrell Scarcliff – born February 22, 1927 in Mobile, AL to Myrtle Harrell Scarcliff and Robert Emile Scarcliff, died February 02, 2015, at 12:12 a.m. from natural causes. Emile graduated from Murphy High School where he played the trombone in the Marching Band. He loved music, especially the Big Band Music by Glen Miller and Tommy Dorset. He was known to jam on the family’s front porch with the renowned Urbie Green. Upon his high school graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Hattie Belle Johnson. Emile enlisted in the Army and was deployed to Germany as an airplane and engine mechanic and continued with his music, playing in the Army Band. After the war, Emile was employed at Mobile’s Brookley AFB by the Air Force. Upon the pending closure of Brookley AFB in 1965, he was transferred to McClellan AFB in California where in his spare time he taught his sons the care and respect for automobiles and participated in autocrossing. In 1971, Emile was promoted to the Pentagon with the Air National Guard and resided in Clifton, VA. Upon retirement from the Pentagon, they moved back to Alabama on Ono Island where Emile participated as a volunteer in the Ono V.F.D. then later as the V.F.D. Chief. For the past 12 years, Emile has resided in the William F. Green Veteran’s Memorial Home.
Emile loved life! He gave all of himself to others, thinking of others before himself. He loved airplanes, flying and building model airplanes, boating, and fishing. With the help of his family, Emile was able to construct each of the homes they lived in (CA, VA, and AL).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Robert Scarcliff; his sister, Kathryn Scarcliff Reed, first wife, Hattie Belle Johnson Scarcliff; daughter-in-law, Mary Dapogny Scarcliff; granddaughter, Sara Anne Scarcliff; and grandsons, Robert Nelson Scarcliff and James Richard Scarcliff. He is survived by his sons, David Emile Scarcliff (Amy DeBrandt) of Theodore, AL and Daniel Harrell Scarcliff (Mary E. Smyth) of Dauphin Island, AL; grandchildren, Sean Emile Scarcliff (Samantha), Erica Elizabeth Scarcliff Pridgen (Josh), Joshua Emile Scarcliff (Tiffany), and Christa Kathryn Scarcliff Roberson (Stanley); great-grandchildren, John Anthony Pridgen, Stanley David Roberson, Noah James Scarcliff, Jesse Elliott Pridgen, and Isabella Mary Roberson; brother, Autry Glenn Scarcliff (Henrietta Gabriella “Ree”); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. with funeral services immediately following in the funeral home chapel.
