Ernest Worthington Todd Jr.

Ernest Worthington Todd, Jr., age 90. A native of Birmingham, AL, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012. Mr. Todd was preceded in death by his sister Carol Todd Turk, and son William Barry Todd. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Minor Todd, son Ernest W. Todd, III (Indianapolis, IN) daughters, Susan T. Bailey and Linda T. Wettermark; grandchildren, Todd D. Bailey, (Charlotte, NC) and Daly Wettermark.

Mr. Todd graduated from Murphy High School and attended the University of Alabama.

He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Aviation Cadet Training Program and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. U.S Marine Corps Reserves. He served as a Navy transport pilot during World War II assigned to the Pacific Theater and stationed in Hawaii as a member of Marine Squadron VMR 953. He served in the Korean conflict then N.A.S. Pensacola, FL with a V-5 pilot designation assigned to a fighter squadron. As a Captain, he served as a flight instructor at the Pensacola Naval Air Station and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Todd married Evelyn Joyce Minor in 1950, and worked as a real estate broker with Todd-DeCelle Realty, American National Bank and First Federal Saving and Loan Association. He served as President of Alabama Federal (Home Savings) until retirement in 1982. He was instrumental in the development of Todd Acres throughout his career and after retirement.

Mr. Todd was a Member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church and served as

Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was an active civic leader and served as President of several local agencies including, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Savings and Loan League, Mobile Lions Club and Mobile Chapter of U.S. Navy League. He was Chairman of the Boards for the Mobile Mental Health Center, Mobile Area United Way, and Foundation for the Elderly, Mobile Child Day Care Association and was the First Board Chair for the MLK Re-development Commission. Mr. Todd also served on the Boards of the National Savings and Loan League, Mobile Industrial Development, USS Battleship Commission, and the Mobile Infirmary Foundation.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 8 at 11:00 at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church with visitation at 10:00 in McGowin Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.
