
Eugene Joseph Tanner – an 81 year-old lifelong resident of Wilmer passed away at his home on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Scott Paper Company as a Division Manager after 36 years of service. Mr. Tanner was a longtime member of Wilmer Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Tanner is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lena Tanner; daughters, Karen Jenkins (Barry) and Julie Sanford (Bob); sister, Margie Chavers (Bill); six grandchildren, Amanda Coggin (Jarrod), Rachel Mudrich (Jonathan), Lee Jenkins (Kayla), Joseph Sanford, Brannan Sanford, and Taylor Sanford; three great-grandchildren, Leanna Coggin, Jaxson Coggin, and Stetson Mudrich; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from Wilmer Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 followed by interment in Wilmer Cemetery.
