Eugene "Brett" Fabretta Thornton Jr.

Eugene (Brett) F. Thornton Jr., of Mobile, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, at the age of 74 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Mobile, AL on September 19th, 1948 and was a graduate of McGill Institute class of 68’. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he met his loving wife Linda of 50 years. After twenty-two years of service, he retired as Master Chief with his history of service being read into Congress in Washington, D.C. He and his wife then relocated to his hometown of Mobile, AL to finish raising their 6 children.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene F. Thornton Sr. and Mildred Juanita Byrd Thornton VanDevender. He is survived by his loving wife Linda M. Thornton, his children Martha Morrow (Victor), Eugene F. Thornton III (Angelique) Andrea Reynolds (Michael), Charlene Thornton Mims, Kelly North (Jesse), Carolyn Houston (Sam); and 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; his siblings; Virginia Ann Thornton Blanchard (Wayne), Alan Lewis Thornton, Sr. (Rhonda), Laurie Jean Thornton Hutchens (Gary Ganey) and many other cousins, relatives and family friends.

He was a devoted Catholic and lead a family rosary group for over 30 years. He was a proud father and grandfather. Our large family was his most important accomplishment. All he wanted was to be around family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Mobile. A rosary service will begin at noon, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway.
