
Florence “Midge” Thompson Lugo—age 94, a native of Stockton, Alabama, living in several cities prior to becoming a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama. Midge was the epitome of a true, gracious, and loving southern lady, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2012, surrounded by her family. After being widowed for many years she married, Dr. Frank Lugo and was a devoted wife for 43 years. Midge was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church for over 35 years. She retired from the Mobile Public School System in 1982. She enjoyed playing golf, horseback riding, fishing, and working with St. Mary’s Home for Children. She was the embodiment of unconditional love in her personal and professional life. She never drew attention to herself, choosing instead to use her marvelous gift of making others feel special. She brightened the world by her existence, and her selfless nature is an enduring example to those she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, C.T. Waters, her husband of 43 years, Dr. Frank M. Lugo, her parents Lloyd D. “Peck” Thompson and Alice Catrett Thompson, her brothers: Roland, Preston, and Howell Thompson, her sisters: Vivian T. Jeffries, Sue T. Hammond, Louise T. Lee, and her nephews: Jessie “Buster” Thompson, Lloyd Taylor, Cecil Glen Taylor, Preston Thompson, Jr. and Howell Thompson, Jr.
Midge is survived by nieces, Betty T. James (Luther) of Mobile, Emily Ruth H. Crane (Sam) of Stockton, Brenda L. Crouch (Bill) of Fairhope, and nephew Carroll Lee Jr. (Kay) of Cantonment, FL, loving in-laws, a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, other relatives and numerous life-long friends.
The celebration of Midge's life will begin at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile, with visitation on Tuesday evening, March 27, 2012, from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Radney’s chapel with interment at Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Midge may be made to the St. Mary’s Children Home, 4350 Moffett Road Mobile, AL 36618.
