I worked with Dr. Meyer at USA Orthopaedics.  He was the sweetest doctor I have even worked for.  I remember one day he ask me if I was scared if him. I told him no, and he said I should be. I told him everyone else at work was scared of him but I think he was just a big soft teddy bear that wanted people to be scared of him. He just chuckled.  That's  when I knew he was just a softie! He is deeply missed. There is not a day that goes by I dont think of him. 

Dr. Meyer was my employer when he was practicing in Phoenix, AZ - and so much more! His caring spirit, his doctoring, his whole person was a great joy and help to me as I was making my way through and into a new life - he cared for me, for my family and showed me how to move on from my old life (he did that eventually by firing me!  just what I needed to move on!) I always knew he was there for me after my days of working for and with him.  It was a shock to learn today (from another hand surgeon I worked with here in Phoenix)of Dr. Meyer's passing.  He also spoke so highly of Dr. Meyer - he was everything that these comments say - here in Phoenix, and where ever he went - he was a wonderful human being!  We have lost a smile, so much skill, such a wonderful man.  I am sorry for your loss Melanie.  I hope your memories are helping you through your loss.  Thank you for sharing him with all of us!

Here in denver, we were so saddened to hear of fred's passing.  He was a great mentor, friend and example to many of us.  He was also a great recruiter and convinced me to join him at the Denver Health Medical Center in 1998.  He also convinced a number of young and well trained surgeons to join us . He worked tirelessly, cheerfully and thoughtfully.  When he left for Mobile, he left us in good stead, having trained us to run a public hospital, residency program and to provide top level clinical care in an academic environment. Whenever i had the good fortune to run into Fred at meetings or the privilege of visiting as a grand rounds speaker, he always left me with some insight or tip of the trade that made my life and/or practice better.  Fred was a wonderful man and physician.  He humbly gave so much to so many.  Our prayers go out to Melanie and their families.  Despite my profound sadness I am overjoyed to have known and been mentored by him in this life.  All our love..Wade Smith

Dr. Meyer was a WONDERFUL doctor and human being.  He saw me and my husband at different times.  He was so kind and gentle and just the best!  He is missed terribly.  Rest in peace.

Dr. Meyer was an amazing doctor.  He has performed 5 surgeries on my husbands elbow/forearm.  My husband was known as "Raby Baby" by Dr. Meyer and held a special place in both of our hearts.  Dr. Meyer called us family and we really felt that way because he was just a phone call away whenever there were complications.  We enjoyed sharing new pictures of our puppies with each other at each appointment and stories of their antics.  There was and will not be another doctor like him and we pray for peace and comfort for his family.  We enjoyed many stories or his and his wifes trips together and he made it obvious that he loved her very much.  My husband and I were in Las Vegas at the time of his passing and with no idea of it went to Madam Trouseus wax museum and took a picture of "Raby Baby" with Evil Knievel to take back to Dr. Meyer since he had told us stories of operating on Evil Knievel.  We will cherish all of our memories of Dr. Meyer as I'm sure all that knew him will.

Dr Meyer not only is the most skilled hand surgeon I ever worked with, but also the most kind, devoted and caring person I ever known. He was a most dearful friend and collaegue that is heartily missed,, and can never be replaced. However his memories, achievements and contributions will never die away.

Dr. Meyers was supposed to do surgery on my teenage son when he returned from his heart surgery. We were deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  He was a wonderful man who always had a smile and a candy bar to put my son at ease.  He was a true story teller and truly one of the sweetest people I had ever met.  He had a true passion for what he did for a living and insisted that my son knew every single thing that was going on with his wrist and why, as an athlete, he was unable to do the things he tried to do.  Bless him and his family.  Thank you to them for allowing him to give so much of himself to others.

I recently was told that Dr. Meyer's had passed away, Dr.  Meyer's was a wonderful Dr., and surgeon. He performed several surgeries on my fingers which he put screws in 5 of them not at one time did I have any trouble with them and no pain ever. Dr. Meyer also had a great bedside manner and you always knew he really cared for you. He will really be missed. May God bless him and his family.

Dr. Meyer was a true blessing to me. When I heard the news of his passing, it would have been easier getting kicked in the stomach by a mule. I had been through an ordeal where I had dislocated my elbow. I had seen a few doctors who told me that the best option was to fuse it. Then I met Dr. Hendrix who said "I know a guy in Mobile who can fix you right up." He sent me to you good doctor. You lifted my spirits when you said "I can fix that, piece of cake it is!" You not only fixed my elbow, you showed me the mountain top. I enjoyed every follow up visit. You had the greatest compassion, always encouraging and you always had a good joke. When it is my turn to cross over, I'm going to look you up and give you the hug I wish I would have given you already. I can never thank you enough for what you have done for me.
I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the family, friends and the amazing staff of Dr. Frederick Meyer.

Dr.Meyer was a caring selfless leader and a true friend. My most sincere sympathies to Melanie and the rest of his family. You all were fortunate to have such an amazing soul in your life.

I will never forget the kindness of Dr. Meyer and his sweet wife Melanie as I ventured out and started my own Bakery. He will forever be remembered in my heart as he gave me the confidence to live out my dream and visited the shop quite frequently for a sweet treat.  I will miss him dearly.

Just when I thought I was going to loose the use of my fingers, Dr. Meyer was able to correct the problem and help me have a normal life.  I owe him so much.  I will miss our conversations on science fiction and animals.

To the entire Meyer family my husband and I wish you peace and comfort during this time.  I know your husband, father, brother, or friend would want you to live on with happy memories.  Cesar and I were very fortunate to get to know Dr. Meyer and his wife when we first moved to Mobile.  Dr. Meyer was so supportive to Cesar when he started his practice here in Mobile and was always there for him.  He was truly a gifted doctor, teacher and great man.  God Bless you all.

I am absolutely devastated by the loss of a great teacher and kind and gentle person.  I represent a medical education company and Dr. Meyer spoke for us on several occasions and was always well received by learners in the audience.  He loved teaching, truly a gifted person who enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge, very down to earth, easy to talk to, a real loss for the medical community across the country. My prayers are with his family.

Dr. Meyer was so helpful to me when I first saw him 8 years ago and without his expertise, I would have undergone unnecessary hand surgery.  Always enthusiastic and smiling, he will be greatly missed.  Everyone was so blessed to have known Dr. Meyer and he will be remembered for the excellent care he provided for so many. Dr. Meyer treated my wife, Rhoda (his colleague), and me (his patient) with love, kindness, and humor.  God knows how good he was and will surely enjoy him.  We share Melanie's grief, but celebrate this Marine's excellence and wish him great joy in his new digs.  Look out for us, Doc.

I am so sorry for the family and friends of Dr.Meyer.He was a great physician and all around great person. He truly had a gift from God with his healing hands.He cared about his patients an treated you with respect. In todays world that is something that is hard to find.I will forever remember the smile on his face as he talked about his wife and family.

We lost one of our best friends last week. When Melanie told us it was too hard to believe. We couldn't, we didn't want to and we are still inconsolable.
Fred's life and love was his work, his peers and students, his wife Melanie, his family and his friends. He loved us all.

He always talked about retirement but Fred's life was his work. We don't think he could separate the two. The only comfort from all of this is an old cowboy phrase: Fred died with his boots on.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Meyer's family. We have lost a wonderful doctor. His compassion was so overwhelming, he always put me at ease when in his office. I have the use of two fingers thanks to him. His smile when walking into the exam room cannot be matched. He will be missed!

I brought my daughter to see Dr. Meyer for a wrist problem she had developed from gymnastics. I had been advised by another surgeon to have surgery, but dr Meyer advised against it because she was still growing. I'm forever grateful for his advise. Two years later she is still growing. My daughter always looked forward to her visits with dr Meyer and her and I were both heartbroken to hear the news. The last time we saw home he showed us pictures of sea horses. He was a dear man and the best dr ever. We will miss him terribly.

I am shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of Dr. Meyer.  He was a kind and caring physician to me after two hand surgeries. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. To Dr. Meyer's family, I am sorry for your great loss.

Dr. Meyer with his bright brilliant smile brought so much to the USA College of Medicine. He was so kind and encouraging to the many medical students and residents he assisted in their training. A great loss is felt by so many and he will never be forgotten. It is said... Doc you have been a friend and menter over the past seven years I have known  you.  You not only opperated on both of my wrist but offered underdtanding anf vompassion of furthur pain I had.  I will miss you very much as a great doctor and a respected friend and fellow Navy Medical Representive.   I cannot express how low i feel at your passing but am  sure you are in heaven lebding your ecpertise to anyone needong it. Good bye my dear friend. Heaven is s better place with your presants.

Dr. Meyer was one of the nicest doctors I'd ever met. He will be greatly missed. To his family, may you be comforted by all of his fond memories.

Dr. Meyer entered the exam room with a cheerful smile and a tie to match. He gave words of encouragement to his patients and words of wisdom to his residents. He always had time to share a personal story, usually about his wife or children. In all of this, he ran a timely clinic. He was an amazing and kind person who exemplified how we should all treat each other.

We have a loss a great friend and colleague with the death of Dr. Fred Meyer. We take comfort, however, in the positive impact he had on his patients and on the many medical students and residents he helped educate. I was honored to know you and because of you I was able to have a career in law enforcement and support my family. Since the early 1980's you have done several surgeries on my wrist and hand the last being in 2012 when it was time to fuse my wrist for good. You were always so friendly and caring and a joy to see. What an amazing man we have lost. I am certain my story would be a repeat of so many others! Not only was he a skilled hand doctor he was a LOVING doctor! Dr. Meyer, I don't even know where to begin. I first met you 27 years ago when you reattached my left arm when I was two. We instantly bonded and kept in touch when you left Alabama and came back. Dr . Meyer worked his magic on my hand last year. The world has lost a great healer and teacher. My thoughts and prayers will be with  his family.

To Dr. Meyer's family:  When my son was in a bad wreck five years ago, Dr. Meyer took care of him for several months and restored him to good health and function.  Not only that, he was also kind and funny during the visits we had at his office. I have appreciated all he did for us, and am so sorry for you all at this time.  He was a wonderful man.

Dr. Meyer, your smile and cheer will be greatly missed in the halls and operating rooms of USA Medical Center. Your sudden passing will be felt for many years by so many here. I am just heart broken, really heart broken to hear that the world has lost a bright ray of sunshine that made such a positive and profound difference in so many lives, including mine. Melanie, I cant even imagine how you are feeling right now. And i know the "kids" must be wondering where he is.
