

She was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Murphy High School and worked as a Federal Civilian Employee as a Finance Accounting Technician for more than 32 years. She began her career at Brookley Air Force Base in 1958 followed by ten years at the Department of Agriculture as well as the Naval Ship Systems Command in Pascagoula, MS. In June 1974 she joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she advanced in the Finance and Accounting Branch and received numerous recognitions for superior performance, retiring in 1990. Mrs. Davis was a devout and devoted wife and mother. She was an active lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church where she pursued her love of music (piano) and teaching. After retirement, she continued to enjoy sharing her cooking and musical talents, her family of children, grandchildren, great-grand-children, and her lifelong friendships. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Gray Davis; her parents, Charles Allen Roberts and Miriam Roberts; step-mother, Ruth Roberts Clinton; sister, Vivian Lucille Larson; and her brother, Charles Allen Roberts, Jr. Survivors include four daughters, Jean D. Holladay of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rosemary D. (Thomas) Karcher of Mobile, Miriam D. (Charles) Boyle of Mobile, and Patricia D. Schneider of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dr. Christopher P. Karcher, John Calvin Holladay, IV, Jeffrey Gray Holladay, Jay Davis Holladay, Martin Charles Boyle, Mary Noller (Justin) Gerth, Julia Karcher (John) Williams, and Ross Roberts Schneider; nine great-grand-children, William, Olivia, James, and Jack Karcher, Frances and William Gerth, Merritt and Ann Karcher Williams, and Charles Boyle. The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to the loving and supportive staff at Allen Memorial Home, and to her physicians, Dr. Thomas McGee, Dr. Hercules Panayiotou and Dr. Cliff Knizely. A Celebration of Life Service will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2012, with Reverend Bruce Mosley and Reverend Lonnie Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Turnerville Cemetery.
