
George (JoJo) Nicholas Coumanis, 71, the first born son of Nick and the late Mary Coumanis, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuedsay, August 1, 2023. George loved his family and friends. His faith and serving the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Atlanta for 30 years brought him great joy. George was a big supporter of the University of Alabama football team. It can be said, “He was a great guy!”
He is survived by his father, Nick George Coumanis, wife, Glenda Coumanis, of Falls Church. Virgina, a brother, Dimitri Nick Coumanis and his wife, Karla of Bay Minette, Alabama, who gave him two nieces, Selena ( daughters London and Noelle) and Katie. He had one Aunt, Maria Coumanis Foropoulous and the late Efthemois (Makis) Foropoulous of Daphne, Alabama. Their daughter, George’s cousin, Georgia Halstead, husband Mitch and daughter Mary Mitchell live in Spanish Fort, Alabama. In addition, he had many cousins in the Coumanis, Vrachalus and Moralis families, especially Bishop Constantine of the Metropolis of Denver.
Funeral services will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Atlanta, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30329, Monday, August 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing in the Narthex from 10 – 11 a.m. George will then be transported to Mobile, Alabama for a Trisigion Service in the Chapel at 10:30 am at the Pine Crest Funeral Home, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Atlanta Benevolent Fund in Memory of George Coumanis.
