Mrs. Cochran was a charter member of Orchard Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years, she was the Women's Ministry President for over 20 years, and for many, many years, one of her greatest joys was to keep the babies in the church nursery. Her love for God, and endless hours of devotion to her church was exemplified in her daily life. She always prayed with her children before they left for school each day, even if it meant the bus driver would have to hold the bus for her to do so. Prayer was an intricate element in the family household, which is evident in her three children's lives today.
She was known throughout her community as a great cook. Seldom, if ever, you went to her house that you did not have a scrumptious desert to entice you to return for another visit very soon. Her turkey and dressing was a favorite dish at Thanksgiving, only surpassed by her potato salad to which she added her 14 day pickles that she canned with the cucumbers she gathered from the family garden.
She not only would know your name, but she would also know your birthday, your Mother's birthday, your Mothers children's birthday, and their children's birthday. To those she knew she called "Darling"; and to those she did NOT know, she also called "Darling". Her children called her Mama, her husband of 63 years called her Baby, but everyone else who knew her lovingly called her "Maw". The hole that is left in our hearts at her passing is filled with a smile, because of the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Morris Fredrick Cochran; her parents, Lillian and Louis Shelton; and one brother, Johnnie Shelton. She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Lynn (Dale) Johnson, of Molino, Florida; two sons, Michael Wayne (Sunshine) Cochran, of Semmes, Alabama, and Leslie Morris (Sheila) Cochran, of Mobile, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Mendy (Brian) Anderson, Steven (Carla) Johnson, David (Ashley) Johnson, Melissa (Robbie) Strickland, Geoff (Ashley) Cochran, Mikey (Kasey) Cochran, and Jared Cochran; seventeen greatgrandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Franklin Harold (Janice) Cochran, of Nixa, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Church of God, 5508 Moffett Road, Mobile, Alabama. The funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 2:00 p.m., and the graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Pine Crest Cemetery West, on Snow Road.
