Grette Hansen Saffron

Grette was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1941 daughter of Anton and Sangvan Cruz. Grette was the youngest of four sisters and one brother.

Grette came to the United States in 1965 where she worked for airline industry in New York City and later met her husband, Harvey. They had one son, Edward and were together for 53 years until Harvey passed in 2021.

Grette had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time in her greenhouse tending to her plants. Grette especially loved growing and taking care of various types of orchids. Grette won numerous awards for her orchids from the Mobile Orchid Society. She was also an avid animal lover and a supporter of the Mobile SPCA.

Grette was an avid tennis player. Her love of tennis and her wicked serve brought her enjoyment as well as comradery with her friends.

Grette is survived by her son Edward (Kim), and her granddaughter Shelby of Girard, PA. Additionally, Grette is survived by her close circle of friends, known as the "posse" as well as her loyal, chair and a half companion Cheyenne.

My family would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire staff at The Retreat, Hospice by Saad for going above and beyond at every turn to make her final days comfortable and peaceful.

Those that knew Grette would know that she did not like to be fussed over and would much rather give than receive, subsequently there will be no funeral services.

Grette would not want us to mourn her loss but rather remember the happy times.
