Hazel Jeanette Scarcliff McGilvray, 80, died January 23, 2022 after a brief illness. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Pine Crest Funeral Home, Mobile, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1 pm followed by a chapel service at 2 pm, burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
Hazel was born December 4, 1941 in Mobile, Alabama. She was a lifelong resident of Mobile. She graduated from Murphy High School and attended Bishop State Community College where she obtained her nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for 17 years and retired from The Orthopaedic Group in 1999. She married Kermit Jefferson McGilvray on June 30, 1967. She is survived by her husband Jeff, of 54 years, her son Les Brown (Lisa), daughter Kelly Slade (Ken), son J. Michael McGilvray (Victoria), and Allison Wootton (Patrick), grandchildren Mary Katherine Brown, Madison and Matthew Slade, Jackson and Elora McGilvray, and Blake and Morgan Wootton, along with numerous other relatives and friends who loved Hazel very much.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents John and Exa Scarcliff, and her half- brothers Johnny, Harold, and Kirk Scarcliff, and sister, Hilda Kelly.
Hazel was recognized for her giving spirit who always looked out for others, as a nurse in her professional career followed as a grandmother -- her favorite role. She was a loving wife who had her best friend in Jeff. They enjoyed traveling together to visit family and see other parts of the country and world. She certainly loved all of her grandchildren tremendously. In addition to her kindhearted spirit, she enjoyed following the Auburn Tigers and all college sports. She was known by all who knew her for her kind attitude with a strong desire to put others ahead of herself. She always served as the ideal role model for family and close friends in demonstrating how to treat people and encourage them during any and all circumstances.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Slade, Jackson McGilvray, Blake Wootton, Bill Gunkel, Jeff Jones, Michael Bryan Leo Reed, and Dan and David Scarcliff.
