Henry Key Benedick, age 94, passed away on September 30, 2021. Henry’s mother, Mattie Sue Reynolds Benedick, was married to Jesse Oscar Butler who was tragically killed in a logging accident in Greenville, Alabama. Henry’s mother moved with their four young daughters from Greenville to Mobile where she met Henry’s father, John (“Jack”) Benedick. Jack Benedick’s parents operated Benedick Dairy in Mobile for many years. Henry attended Murphy High School and 20th Century Business College. After graduating from the business school, Henry served two years in the United States Army and then four years in the U. S. Army Reserves. After his Army service he worked in the school book industry and then at Walgreen’s Drug Stores.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his four half-sisters and his cousin and best friend, Buster Benedick. He is survived by his nieces Ann Carwie Mosley, Sandy Gray and Martha Neely, his nephew Charles Bodden and his cousins Fred and Sandra Benedick.
Henry grew up attending First Christian Church and in later years attended Cottage Hill Baptist Church. His family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Senior Residence for their excellent care over the last several years. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway.
