

A native and resident of Mobile, Al transitioned on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Treat at Saad’s Hospice. He was born January 25, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alemda (John) Bonner), Sr.; one brother, Reginald Wilson; four sisters, Clara Webb, Irene Gay, Donna Brown, and Hazel Wiggins. He was a 1960 graduate of Central High School. Attended Alabama State University with a degree in Education. He retired from the Mobile Country Public School System after 45 years of service. During this time, he worked at Booker T. Washington Middle, Mae Eanes Middle, Scarborough Middle, Trinity Gardens Middle and T.L. Faulkner Vocational Schools. He was also an employee of the Mobile City Parks and Recreations for over 40 years. During his years working for Mobile City Recreation Department, he worked at Duval Park, Carver Park and also started the program at Peters Park in the neighborhood where he lived. He would often go pick up players from the Orange Grove and Roger Williams projects for practice and transport them back home after practice in his personal vehicle. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served as a Trustee and a Deacon for several of those years. Due to ill health and his faithful service to Mt. Zion he was elevated to Deacon Emeritus. He was a teacher, school administrator, coach, mentor, and father figure to many. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Michele Wilson, Three songs, Miguel (Terryl) Lang, Sr. of Huntsville, AL, Herschell (LaToni) Wilson, II, Jay (Alexis) Wilson of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren Tia Lang, Khari Hill, Herchell Wilson, III, Miguel Lang, Jr., Ty Wilson, Aja Wilson, Jaya Wilson, and Jalen Wilson, one great grandson, Tristan Craighead of Atlanta GA.; two brothers, John (Tina) Bonner, Jr. Of Milwaukee, WI, and Frederick (Daisy) Bonner, Sr., two sisters, Thalia (Willie) Smiley of Manassa, VA and Rhonda Wynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
