Jackson W. "Jack" Day

Jackson W. “Jack” Day – age 84, born November 10, 1927 in Bladdon Springs, AL to the late Rev. Ollie Calvin Day and Etta Mae Taylor Day, and longtime resident of Mobile, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012. Mr. Day was a former mechanic for Fausak’s Tires, retiring after 17 years of service. He then worked in security, first at Q.M.S. for 8 years, and then at Securitas Security for 17 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Tillman’s Corner. Mr. Day was preceded in death by a brother, James Daniel Day; sister, Rachael Myrdis Switzer; and grandson, Danny Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Laverne Schimpf Day; children, Dorothy Murray (David), Judith Johnson (Don), and Rev. Jackson Calvin Day (Verda); grandchildren, Jeffrey Day (Erin), James Johnston, Jr., Karen Elaine Godwin, Tabitha Ruth Philen (Shane), and Meredith Louise Grisham (David); great-grandchildren: Heather, Penny, and Sarah Godwin, Annalise, Micah, Evan, and Josephine Philen, Jarrett, Alexas, and Vella Rae Day, and Brittany, Kaitlyn, and Zane Grisham; great, great-grandson, Elijah Jackson Godwin; sister, Berthia Mae Crooke; 6 nieces, 6 nephews, many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, August 27, 2012, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
