James Robert "Crawdaddy" Crawford , native of Stonewall, MS and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, James Sumpter Crawford, mother, Ruby Kelly Crawford and sister Martha Crawford Gordon.
He grew up in Mobile and graduated from Vigor High School, Class of 1956. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. He served as baseball coach at Vigor High School from 1963 until 1967. He also served as the Head Trainer and Assistant Baseball coach of the University of South Alabama.
Mr. Crawford coached the Gastonia Rangers and then scouted with the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and ended his baseball career with the Chicago Cubs as the Senior Advisor to the Scouting Director.
He is survived by his children Kimberly Crawford Eighmy (Gene) and Christopher James Crawford (Lorreen). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Megan Eighmy East (Andrew), Gillian Eighmy Logsdon (Cole), Shawn Crawford and Kyle Crawford.
His ashes will be spread at some of his favorite places spent with family and friends and at his favorite fishing spot.
