James Columbus Nelson

James C. Nelson - the former President of Nelson Wholesale Corporation, died Monday, July 23, 2012 in Mobile hospital at the age of 85. A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Mr. Nelson graduated from Murphy High School and served in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his return to Mobile, Nelson attended Springhill College and was active in many area civic and business organizations, as well as local mystic organizations, through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Parks Nelson and Eben E. Nelson; son, James C. "Chuck" Nelson, Jr.; and sister, Alice Shelley. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen McBride Nelson; two sons, Noel J. Nelson and Roger A. (Beverly) Nelson; one daughter, Jan N. (Louis) Zimlich; five grandchildren, Ryan C. Zimlich, Alana B. Nelson, Sarah Drue Nelson, Julia C. Nelson, and Michael M. Nelson, all of the Mobile area. Mr. Nelson is also survived by a brother, George E. Nelson of Mobile, and two sisters, Ann Smith of North Carolina and Lolly Rickert of New Jersey. A funeral service is scheduled at Little Flower Catholic Church on Government Street on Thursday July 26, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery
