

James Dawson Williams, 60, of Mobile, AL, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018. He was born to Captain J.P. Williams, Jr. and Mary Agnes Travis Sullivan on August 7, 1958. Professionally, people knew him as “James”. To family, he was “Dawson”. James played baseball for years in the Mobile area as a catcher. He was a graduate of McGill and USA. He worked on a tugboat with Warrior Gulf Navigation in Louisiana and Mobile, starting out as a deckhand and later pursued and received a captain's license. Afterward, he became a family service counselor at Pine Crest Cemetery and Pine Crest Funeral Home in Mobile. Saturday, August 25, 2018 would have been James’ 25th anniversary at Pine Crest.
James was a force to be reckoned with. He never met a stranger, and would extend himself beyond all means to help anyone, or any animal. He had a spirit that would meet you like a whirlwind. He was one of the hardest, most dedicated workers that ever walked this earth, and the families he served meant the world to him.
James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Michael Sullivan; an aunt, Lily R. Travis; close friend and cousin, Tom Steely; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family.
He is survived by his brother, Marion Patrick (Linda) Sullivan; cousin, Joanna M. Conner; and devoted friend, Dee Donald; cousins; and many, many others who will always cherish James’ memory.
Visitation for James will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church on Friday, August 31, 2018 at noon, with interment immediately following in Catholic Cemetery.
