Born on February 24, 1937, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Frances and John Alderman, Sr., Janet moved with her family at a young age and grew up in Pensacola, Florida, where she graduated from Pensacola High School in 1955. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, as well as The University of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, James L. (Jim) Lambert, who died in 1992, and her brother, John Harvey Alderman, Jr., who died in 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Janée (Jo) Bonner of Mobile and Montrose, and her son, Mike (Cathy) Lambert of Roswell, Georgia; five grandchildren, Lee (Andrew) Friedman of Mobile, Robins (Erin) Bonner of Tuscaloosa, James Lambert of Marietta, Georgia, Libby Lambert of Atlanta, and Molly Lambert of New York City; and one great-grandchild, Virginia Louise Friedman of Mobile, as well as other relatives and friends.
Janet was a fun, outgoing person with a wonderful wit and deep dedication and loyalty to her family and friends. She wrote the book on being a grandmother and she gave freely of her time to support the Mobile Opera as well as the music ministry of Springhill Baptist Church; the annual holiday performance, “This Is Christmas” was a favorite tradition for Janet and many other friends in the church choir.
After Jim died in 1992, Janet traveled the world – touching all seven continents – but she always made her friends and family her top priority.
Funeral services will be held from the graveside in Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mobile Opera or the music ministry of Springhill Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
