Jean Adrienne Nuding Don, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was born to Virgil and Edythe Nuding in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 14, 1928. Jean worked as a nurse for her husband, Dr. Horace M. Don, until she retired fifty years ago. Extremely family oriented, Horace and Jean moved from Iowa to Mobile after their two daughters had relocated to the area. Jean was known as “Mom”, “Grandma”, and “Mama Don” to everyone she met. She was a wonderful woman, and generous to a fault. She never missed an event her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in. Her home was open to all, and everyone who entered was told to make themselves at home. Jean enjoyed crocheting, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and gardening. She was a devout Christian, and was very involved in her church life. Jean was a member of Theodore United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, was involved with Prayer Shawl, attended Sunday School, and enjoyed fellowship. She was a member of the Greatest Generation, and will be dearly missed.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Max Don; parents, Virgil and Edythe Nuding; and son, Jerry Norman Don.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Don Vines (Roger) and Lisa Don Spurlock; son, Edward Wayne Don; granddaughters, Rhonda Becker (Scott), Angie Spurlock, and Tracy Benoit (Justin); grandson, Chris Spurlock (Stacey); great-granddaughters, Rebecca Garrett (Justin), Aylea Becker, Trinity Benoit, Kylee Benoit, Jordan Benoit, Kadence Spurlock, and Bailey Rutledge; great-grandsons, Cody Becker (Mary), Luke Spurlock, Tristan Rutledge, and Bryson Moiren; great-great-granddaughters, Madilynn Garrett and Brooklyn English; great-great-grandsons, Clay Phillips and Jaydin Garrett; brother, Jerry Nuding; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Jean will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Theodore United Methodist Church, 6255 Swedetown Road North, Theodore, Alabama 36582. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West.
