

Jean Elizabeth Stroman Hayden – a native of Orangeburg, SC and a resident of Mobile, AL since 1963. She was born on December 31, 1927 and passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in a local health care facility. Mrs. Hayden was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Earl Hayden; parents, Paul Benjamin Stroman and Beatrice Thrower Stroman, and a sister, Barbara Stroman Copelan. She attended the University of South Carolina and was certified in Secretarial Science, after which she became a court reporter and legal secretary for the Solicitor of Orangeburg, Calhoun and Dorchester Counties in South Carolina. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women Club of S.C. and Beta Sigma Phi Professional Women. She later moved to Jacksonville, FL and became a legal secretary for the Assistant District Attorney and Solicitor for Duval County. After moving to Mobile in 1963, she retired from the Mobile County Schools in 1991. Mrs. Hayden was an active member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church since 1963. She served on various boards and was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, and the Administrative Board. She was later made an Honorary member of the Administrative Board. Mrs. Hayden is survived by four children, Paula Barbee, Julia (James) Dunning and John (Nancy) Hayden of Mobile, and Catherine (Jack) Mills of Birmingham; one sister, Pauline (Jack) Sanders of Duluth, GA; six grandchildren, James F. Dunning, IV, Hayden C. Dunning, Benjamin J. Hayden, Marshall W. Hayden of Mobile, Mary Hayden Mills and Elizabeth M. Mills, both of Birmingham; a niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the Funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 439 Azalea Rd., Mobile, AL 36609.
